RTI response 2 | Unveiling the Dream of Auroville

As we are aware that Auroville is now trying to follow law and order and address all the issues in Auroville, let us look at an RTI response that will show how the past is being erased slowly. The replies are not coherent with the questions asked

RTI reply 2: Auroville Foundation

AFOUN/R/2019/50014 |

Filed on 23/09/2019 | Replied on 04/01/2024

1) Minutes of meeting of Gb & working groups on 19th & 20th of September 2019 is required

Reply by Auroville Foundation: Auroville follows Oath of Transparency and the GB meeting minutes are available at

The Question asked is for the Governing Board meeting of Sept 2019, not the updated ones now. The link only showcases the current Governing Board updates from the 57th MOM held on 2nd November 2021. Good decisions are being made by the current Chairman, but we would love to know what meetings were held by the previous chairman that it is so secretive to not be displayed publicly or given to a common man. We appreciate the Oath of Transparency, but it seems it is still quite opaque.

2) What is the Mandate & Responsibilities of Oversight Committee.

Reply by Auroville Foundation: The members of the Oversight committee gave advice and directions to the GB and for the growth of Auroville.

It was known that its role was to cover up things that came out of the Auroville system into the public domain constituted secretly by the ex Chairman.

3) Who are the members of the Oversight Committee

Reply from Auroville Foundation: No reply

The members were trustees of Trusts that were not a part of Auroville, known for siphoning donations. We know what kind of vested interests the Oversight Committee would have to bring all illegal activities into the legal framework of Auroville.

4) Does it have the approval of Resident Assembly, Governing Board or any other approval to constitute the same?

No Reply

It did not have any approval of the Resident Assembly or known by anyone.

5) What are the task forces constituted by the Governing Board in the past 2 months and the reasons for the same is required. Job responsibilities for each task force is required.

No Reply

The previous GB also made various task forces to address issues in Auroville viz, Economics, Land, Human Rights. which was rejected outright by the Resident Assembly who held their autonomy dear.

6) What are the task forces constituted by the Resident Assembly in the past 2 months and the reasons for the same is required. Job responsibilities for each task force is required.

No Reply

They did a huge task force to cover-up and gave explanations which had no legal standing nor yielded any results.

7) What is the timeframe to submit the reports to the Governing Board in points 5 & 6

No Reply

No timeframe, its was a banana republic where time is used to absolve them from crimes.

8) Who are the members of task forces in points 5 & 6

No Reply

The people who had vested interests were the members of the task forces.

9) Does Auroville follow Oath of Secrecy or Oath of Transparency - Choose any one

Already been chosen, but as seen they are not being transparent about the occurrence of the previous Governing Board

10) What action has been taken Working Groups or individuals vindicating and questioning people

as to who has given information of corruption and wrongdoings, which have been duly documented? The reasons for this are required and justification for such actions is required

No Reply

Such corrupt vile people still continue in Working Groups unabated and they still hold positions in land and finance. There is no code of conduct for members in Working Groups, and crooks have a free hand. The current GB is addressing these big issues, hopefully.

11) Are Fundamental Rights enshrined upon Citizens as per the Constitution of India applicable in Auroville - Yes / No

Fundamental Rights and Civil Rights are applicable in Auroville

Now they seem to be applicable, but yet Right to Livelihood, the Right to equality under the law, Right to justice are still a distant dream. So much so that all leeways given to Auroville so far are unconstitutional.

12) Are Civil Rights of any citizen of human being applicable in Auroville - Yes / No

Same as above.
